TASTED BY ANDREAS LARSSON
Andreas Larsson, Best Sommelier of the World 2007 :
" Intense ink/black color. Ambitious and modern nose with notes of fine oak, high maturity, dark chocolate, ripe plum, blackberry, and cassis with thin layers. Dense and concentrated palate, polished and bright with great power and persistence, certainly broad and structured but balanced with lovely fruit."

"It was Angela Merkel's last European Council. The meeting, which brings together the heads of the 27 member states of the European Union, took place in Brussels, Belgium on Thursday October 21. Emmanuel Macron was present, and the two political figures pushed their discussions to 4 a.m., accompanied by a bottle of red wine, a Château Martets according to Le Journal du Dimanche, this October 31. Speaking toBFM TV, Emmanuel Macron answered questions about his relationship with Angela Merkel, and when asked if they were both in a positive confrontation, the President nodded in agreement, before going on to talk about the friendship between himself and his German colleague."

GUIDE HACHETTE 2023
Château Martet is one of 18 Bordeaux 1st and 2nd Grands Crus Classés to receive the ultimate award: both Coup de Coeur and 3 stars !
"A pure Merlot aged 18 months in new barrels and presented in numbered bottles. The wine lives up to all its promises, built around intense black fruit, between blackcurrant and blackberry, but also hints of violet and raspberry. The palate is powerful and dense, underlined by well-melted tannins and plenty of freshness. Clearly a wine for laying down, tannic but not overly so, with a long, lingering finish."

"Intense, seductive nose, displaying a modern profile with fine notes of oak, toast and coffee beans combined with ripe black fruit. Dense on the palate, with good concentration and a fine touch of freshness thanks to crisp tannins and bright minerality. Unctuous and layered with a fine spiciness, dense and fleshy with a very long, powerful finish. A modern, powerful wine, yet very elegant."

June 2022 - Vigneron Magazine
"Blend yes, lock yourself in no. On these hillsides, we're free from dogma, but not from the highest standards. The wine, a living substance, has the structure, style and roundness of Martet's blends.
On the hillsides bordering the Dordogne, we are offered a Bordeaux of another time, of another color. Particularly in the heart of the Sainte-Foy-Côtes deBordeaux appellation and its landscape of hills separated by valleys where rivers and streams shape the entire vineyard. Arriving in Eynesse, Château Martet's stronghold, the Papillondominates the horizon, but it's the old 13th-century building that really catches the eye. This former hospice of the Templar Order has belonged to the Coninck family since 1991, as have the surrounding 50 hectares of vines and woods.
...
Nina Mitjavile took over from her brother Louis (Mitjavile) in 2021: "In love with the wines of Pomerol, the Coninck family decided to produce a 100% Merlot(s) cuvée on these more or less sandy-clay terroirs punctuated with gravel. Some will say that it's easier to make wines from a single grape variety, but I say that it's a slippery slope. If you make a mistake, there's nothing to readjust! The name says it all: Réserve de Famille. "As for the Cabernet Franc parcels, they have a role to play (15%) in the blend of the second wine, Les Hauts de Martet. We don't rectify the blend, as we want the climatic conditions inherent to each vintage to be the only imponderable!"

“The intense red-purple color reveals a certain youthfulness.
Intense and fragrant, with fine notes of toast and oak, followed by ripe black fruits, blackcurrant, cherry and mint.
The palate is dense and concentrated, with a smooth extraction, the tannins are crisp, the black fruit is tasty, finely spiced, and a long and fleshy finish.”
